Wondering how you came to have premature ejaculation or erectile dysfunction? Turns out that your past relationships with women could be to blame.

It’s been revealed that a man’s relationship with his mother -or the age he first fell in love – can influence his sexual function later in life. In a recent Journal of Sexual Medicine study, researchers looked at these factors in relation to both erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE).

Men with ED have trouble getting or keeping an erection firm enough for satisfying sex. Premature ejaculation occurs when a man climaxes before he and his partner wish it to happen. Some men have ED and PE at the same time. No matter how it happens, these issues can cause distress for both men and women.

your mom can cause ed?

Some experts believe that a man’s early relationship with his mother, along with early experiences with romantic love, can play a role in his sexual function as an adult. Theories suggest that one’s relationship with a mother can build the foundation for relationships with others. And falling in love may set the stage for emotional relationships that may later become sexual ones.

To learn more, the researchers collected data from 960 sexually-experienced Czech men between the ages of 15 and 88 years. Their average age was 43 years. The men answered a variety of questions, including, “How do you rate your relationship with your mother (or another woman who raised you) during your childhood?” The participants also shared the age at which they first fell in love. They completed questionnaires related to erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation as well.

On average, the men first fell in love shortly before they turned fifteen years old. After analyzing the results, the researchers found that men with ED were more likely to have PE. They also discovered that men with better erectile function fell in love at earlier ages than those with erectile problems.

Men who did not have good relationships with their mothers were more likely to have ED and PE. In addition, there was an association between poor relationships with mothers and first falling in love at an older age. Men who said they had never been in love were more likely to have premature ejaculation, too.

bad girlfriends equals sexual problems
Why did the men who fell in love at later ages have sexual issues? The researchers suggested that there may have been conflicts with sexuality or intimacy that affected their long-term sexual health.

They added that mother-son relationships and age of first falling in love were not the only ways to explain sexual issues. It’s also possible that in recalling their relationship with their mothers, the men’s memories could have been influenced by their present life experiences.

In any case, this study does confirm that past sexual or emotional experiences can have a direct effect on your present romantic life and sexual function. Fostering positive associations with women and relationships can have a positive effect on sexual function later in life.
